The Tasks...

The fortnightly working party task list constantly changes as need demands, which on occasion is as a result of the weather. For example, after a period of heavy rain just prior to Christmas 2012, tree debris completely blocked the main stream 150 metres north of the Fen Lane bridge. This required wading in the stream to effect clearance in order to restore the stream's normal flow. This in turn meant that the morning's planned tasks were of necessity posponed. This is not an unusual occurence and plans remain fluid and change frequently.
For the 2012/2013 season (early November - late February) the major task at hand is to remove as much of the 20 year build-up of silt from the bed of the top stream. This will hopefully encourage a wider variety of marine life to re-populate the stream.
A typical Sunday morning working party task list might read as follows: Collect and bag litter from the site including the stream beds. (This will include glass bottles, drink cans, sandwich wrappings and even discarded dog poo bags.) Check gullies and ditches for blockages and clear, Collect fallen tree litter. Reprofile ditches as required. Note and photograph signs of wild life and newly identified flora.
